Orkney Bere Spiced Bannocks with Crispy Bacon

Delicious Bannocks when you feel like something different for breakfast

  • Cooking Time: 10 minutes
  • Difficulty: Easy


  • 250g Beremeal
  • 150g Plain flour
  • Generous Scrunch of wild marjoram
  • Pinch of Isle of Skye Sea Salt
  • 2 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1 tsp cream of tartar
  • 25g butter
  • 1 dstsp Organic natural yoghurt
  • 200 mls whole milk
  • Ramsay Ayrshire Streaky Bacon


1. Rub together dry ingredients
2. Rub in butter to the dry mix
3. Blend in liquids - it should be a soft mix. Add a little extra milk if required
4. Roll out into bannocks and bake on a hot thick-bottomed frying pan (no oil needed) for 5 minutes per side until risen and toasted
5. While this is cooking fry off some streaky bacon until crispy

Serve with your crispy bacon and drizzle with honey if you like
